The origins of Defence Day can be traced back to the Indo-Pak War of 1965. The conflict began on April 7, 1965, when Pakistani and Indian forces disaccorded over the disputed regions of Kashmir. Pressures escalated fleetly, and the war officially commenced on September 6, 1965, when the Indian Army crossed the transnational border.
Pakistani service and civilians
stood united to defend their motherland.

Notable Battles and Heroes:

Several battles during the 1965 war have become iconic symbols of Pakistani valor.

Battle of Chawinda.

One of the largest tank battles since World War II, it took place near Sialkot. Pakistani forces, led by Major General Abdul Hamid Khan, managed to halt the Indian advance, inflicting heavy losses.

Battle of Khem Karan

Pakistani forces under the leadership of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti defended the strategically important area of Khem Karan in the Kasur sector, repulsing repeated Indian attacks.

Among the icons of Defence Day, Lalik Jan was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan's loftiest military honor, posthumously. His courage in the face of adversary fire remains an alleviation.

Another Nishan-e-Haider philanthropist, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, offered his life by crashing his aircraft to help it from falling into adversary hands.

Ceasefire and International Mediation:

The war came to an end with a ceasefire brokered by the Soviet Union and the United States. Leading to the Tashkent Agreement on January 10, 1966. The agreement commanded a return to the war borders but didn't resolve the Kashmir disagreement. Still, Defence Day continues to emphasize Pakistan's commitment to guarding its territorial integrity and seeking peaceful judgments for indigenous
